Random Numbers

This section gives a short introduction to Monte Carlo methods, and describes methods for generating pseudo-random sequences of numbers. The Marsaglia effect is demonstrated using the RANDU generator.

A Java applet demonstrates the generation of random numbers in real time. The problem with the RANDU generator can be seen.
