Interpolation and Extrapolation

Given the values of a function at a set of points, it is often necessary to estimate the function for some other arbitrary point. This section demonstrates interpolation and extrapolation with polynomial and rational functions. The cubic spline method defines an interpolating function with continuous first and second order derivatives. Extensions of these methods to more than one dimension are introduced.
